Sacrifice on the Dorchester

Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant chaplains—George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, Clark V. Poling and John P. Washington—gave up their life jackets and prayed together as the U.S.A.T. Dorchester sank.

1948

Special Recognition by Congress

U.S. Congress awarded posthumous Special Medals for Heroism to the chaplains, considered equal to the Medal of Honor.

Formation of Chaplains Memorial Foundation
