National Skibidi Toilet Day, observed every February 7, marks the anniversary of the 11-second YouTube short that ignited one of the most improbable cultural phenomena of the 2020s. On that date in 2023, Georgia-based animator Alexey Gerasimov, operating as DaFuq!?Boom!, uploaded a video in which a human head erupts from a toilet bowl singing a mashup of Timbaland's "Give It to Me" and Biser King's "Dom Dom Yes Yes," setting off a chain reaction that would accumulate over 65 billion combined YouTube views by November of that year. Holiday Calendar created the observance in 2024 through a community vote on its platform, with the first official celebration taking place on February 7, 2025. The word "skibidi" predates the toilet by five years. Russian rave band Little Big released the song "Skibidi" on October 5, 2018, as part of their album Antipositive, Pt. 2 on Warner Music Russia. Written by Ilya Prusikin and media producer Lyubim Khomchuk, the track debuted at number one on Tophit in the Russian Commonwealth and generated a widespread "Skibidi Challenge" on social media that spread the nonsense syllable globally.

Alexey Gerasimov, a Source Filmmaker animator in Georgia, had been building a small YouTube following under the handle DaFuq!?Boom! for years before 2023. He had roughly 1 million subscribers in 2021, mainly from GTA machinima and Half-Life 2 fan animations. His approach to Skibidi Toilet was, by his own account, instinctual: he told Cartoon Brew he wanted to make "something unexpected and silly."

The First 11 Seconds

On February 7, 2023, Gerasimov posted a short clip that ran 11 seconds. The viewer flies through an office-like space, past a small suited figure, and into a bathroom where a human head rockets out of a toilet bowl, lip-syncing a viral TikTok mashup of Timbaland's 2007 song "Give It to Me" and Biser King's "Dom Dom Yes Yes." The short had no plot, no title card, and no explanation.

The next few episodes were similarly brief, but Gerasimov introduced a persistent conflict: camera-headed and speaker-headed humanoids fighting waves of singing, toilet-dwelling heads. Each episode ended on a cliffhanger. Reddit communities began cataloging lore, identifying Half-Life 2 character models embedded in the animation, and theorizing about the series' cosmology.

A Viral Explosion

Between January and May 2023, DaFuq!?Boom!'s monthly views surged from 3 million to nearly 3 billion. By November 2023, YouTube videos associated with Skibidi Toilet had accumulated over 65 billion combined views, and the #skibiditoilet hashtag on TikTok reached 23 billion views by July 2024. The series proved to be the dominant cultural touchstone for Generation Alpha, the cohort born from the early 2010s onward, many of whom encountered Skibidi Toilet before age 13.

From Screen to Franchise

The IP moved rapidly beyond YouTube. In December 2024, Epic Games launched a Fortnite x Skibidi Toilet collaboration, including Plungerman outfits and a Skibidi Toilet Back Bling, available in the Fortnite Shop until December 28, 2024. In July 2024, Variety reported that filmmaker Michael Bay and former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman, operating through their studio Invisible Narratives, were developing a film and TV franchise. Production was officially confirmed in May 2025, with Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Rob Legato and production designer Jeffrey Beecroft, a two-time Transformers veteran, both attached.

In March 2025, Scholastic announced it had acquired world and all language rights to the Skibidi Toilet franchise from Invisible Narratives, with a publishing schedule spanning novels, graphic novels, guidebooks, and a coloring book running from Summer 2025 through 2026.

A Holiday Born from the Community

Holiday Calendar formalized fan enthusiasm into an annual observance in 2024 by opening a vote on its platform to establish National Skibidi Toilet Day. The community chose February 7, the exact date of the series' premiere, grounding the holiday in documented history rather than arbitrary calendar placement. The first official celebration took place on February 7, 2025. In August 2025, Cambridge Dictionary added "skibidi" to its database of more than 2 billion words of tracked English usage, with lexical program manager Colin McIntosh noting the word had demonstrated the "staying power" required for inclusion.
