First Observance of UN Day

The United Nations General Assembly declared October 24 as United Nations Day, marking the coming into effect of the UN Charter.

1970

Decolonization Efforts

The UN's decolonization efforts led to the release of numerous colonial territories and the addition of many new member states.

2000

Millennium Summit

The largest gathering of world leaders in history occurred on UN Day to establish the Millennium Development Goals.
